Carrot Diggers

Carrot Digger is a series of sculptural rings examining language, value, and the fluidity of perception in capitalist societies. The homophones—carat, carrot, and karat—each carry disparate meanings yet echo each other phonetically, embodying the inherent ambiguity of value systems. In this collection, humour and irony are used to interrogate material worth, prompting a reconsideration of the metrics by which we assign value.

Through playful linguistic parallels, the series reveals the subjective nature of value—questioning whether an object’s worth can ever be truly objective or if it remains tethered to societal prejudices. In a world devoid of human constructs, would these objects simply exist, unburdened by labels or price? This series invites viewers to contemplate the essence of value, challenging them to strip away their preconceptions and engage with these objects on their own terms.
